Photography allows me to capture hidden details, see the small things people miss in everyday life, and forget the tensions and worries that keep us from noticing how sweet the world can be.
my photography journey started a couple of years ago, feeling intense academic and family pressures around me, I found myself adrift. Going out with an old camera to the only skatepark in the city was a distraction from school and home, and the skateboarding community gave me a sense of belonging. I found happiness in how photography could capture stories of evenings full of laughter and music in a few images.
Being dyslexic meant I often struggled to write the words stuck in my head, and I was told growing up that I wouldn't be successful as I felt defined by my abilities within the classroom. However, Photography gave me the freedom to tell the stories I could never put down on paper; it became a means of communication. Through this lens, I found the power to not only narrate and articulate the complexities of people and their communities but I found the power to embrace my voice. It made me think consciously about the meanings and message behind my work.
to be the change I want to see in the world
